The 100 Updates

The trip impacted three of the 100 List items.
Native penguins, continents, and raft were all incrementally improved.
The whole list of 100 activities is here.

#9 6 Species of Penguin in their native habitat

Status - Partial, 5 of 6 so far

(1 of 6) The Galapagos Penguin is the furthest North of the penguin family.

Got to see them up close when we were in the Galapagos Islands in 2001.
It was early morning, which is why the sunlight is so yellow.

(2 of 6) The Rock Hopper Rookery was on West Point Island, part of the Falkland Islands chain.

The rookery was on a side of the island called the "Devil's Nose." It was a mixed
rookery of Black-browed Albatross and Rock Hopper penguins.

(3 of 6) Gentoo penguins were everywhere. This was at Saunders Island,
part of the Falkland Islands chain.

They are comical to watch and very animated, always seemingly on a mission
(probably just stealing pebbles).

(4 of 6) King penguins were at many landings. Salisbury Plain is in South Georgia.

The birds and their plumage are quite distinctive. Their behavior was more stately
than the Gentoos, but just as noisy and contentious with each other.

(5 of 6) Chinstraps were captured at Elephant Island. Zodiac cruise so we didn't land.

I usually didn't take the DSLR out during a zodiac trip. I had a waterproof
disposable camera. Weather prevented us from landing at other chinstrap rookeries.
But my camera did catch some swimming while we we out at sea.
